Frequently Asked Questions
-
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and to talk about what has brought you to therapy. We can discuss some of the difficulties you're experiencing, your background and what you might be hoping to get from therapy. There is no expectation that you have everything worked out or know exactly what you want to talk about. It is also an opportunity to consider whether working together feels like a good fit.

Psychodynamic therapy is an approach that explores the patterns and experiences that shape how we think, feel and relate to others. It recognises that some of the difficulties we experience in the present can be connected to earlier experiences and ways of relating that have developed over time. Therapy provides an opportunity to become curious about these patterns, develop a deeper understanding of yourself and consider different ways of relating to your experiences.

This depends on what brings you to therapy and what you hope to explore. Some people find that a relatively short period of therapy (around 10–20 sessions) is helpful for working through a particular difficulty. Others prefer to work over a longer period, allowing more time to explore recurring patterns and experiences in greater depth. We can discuss what might be appropriate as our work develops.

I generally recommend weekly sessions. Regularity provides continuity and allows us to build on what has emerged in previous sessions. I understand that circumstances and finances can affect how frequently someone is able to attend, and we can discuss what is manageable.
I offer a consistent appointment at the same time each week which is yours until you decide to discontinue. Attending therapy more than once per week is a possibility. -
Yes. I have experience working with people with a range of complex mental health presentations, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar affective disorder and eating disorders. I welcome working with people experiencing these difficulties, provided they remain regularly engaged with their GP and/or Psychiatrist for ongoing medical care and support.

No. You are welcome to contact me directly without a referral. However, if you would like to access a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP or psychiatrist.
-
Yes. If you are eligible and have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral, you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year. Your GP or psychiatrist can discuss your eligibility and arrange the necessary referral.

My fee is $200 ($210 from 1/1/27) for a 50-minute consultation. I aim to keep my fees as accessible as practical, recognising that therapy often involves an ongoing financial commitment. Payment is made by bank transfer or stored card, and an invoice is provided by email following each session.
A rate can be negotiated for those wishing to attend more than once per week. -
My regular appointments are held in person at my rooms in Spring Hill, Brisbane. Telehealth may be possible in some circumstances, which we can discuss when arranging an appointment.
-
I see clients at Suite 22, Ballow Chambers, 121 Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill, Brisbane. The rooms are centrally located and accessible by public transport.

You don't need to have a clear idea of what you want from therapy before getting in touch. Sometimes people seek therapy because of a specific difficulty, while others have a more general sense that something isn't quite right. If you're unsure whether my approach would suit you, you're welcome to get in touch and we can discuss what you're looking for.
-
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice incur the full session fee. If you're unwell, telehealth may be an alternative to cancelling altogether.
